I love italian food and am not hard to please. However, there is not one thing on that menu that I can actually say I enjoy. The portions may be large, but its all about quality, not quantity and they do not have it! The atmosphere isn't very good either. I feel like Im entering a soup kitchen, a big room with tables and chairs, no dimension whatsoever. Its a sad excuse for an italian atmosphere with their wall paintings that are completely outdated. The management is crap! Actually, no wait, let me say this again.. there is no management. They have 2 owners who come in for an hour or so during the rush, who walk around with their phones pressed to their ears trying to look important. Clearly showing that their minds are elsewhere, other things are more important than helping to run the restaurant during the rush. They just want your money. Compared to most restaurants in the city, they are not very busy and it is clear why! Don't waste your time! Go to Olive garden if you want Italian. If you want great food, great atmosphere and great service Id suggest Lazia, such a wonderful experience!

Kind of expensive for my tastes, but we went there for a friend's birthday party. It was a pretty nice atmosphere, and the food was really good! Unlike that huge essay below us, I didn't really find anything wrong with the service. Was it was because we didn't book a party on a holiday that's infamous for filling up restaurant tables completely, nor did we somehow feel entitled to the table for an entire night? Hope that helps!!

My father's 60th birthday was Friday, Feb 13. After discussing plans with our large group, we found Saturday (Valentine's Day) to be a more viable night to have the party. My mother made reservations a week in advance at the Sicilian Pasta Kitchen located on Jasper Avenue (Edmonton) and was told by the lady on the phone that we could have a 5pm slot or a 9pm slot. My mother chose 5pm. There were nine of us in total, and we were having a lovely time drinking wine, ordering appetizers and chatting. At 5:45, the server (who was for the most part really good) came over and said "sorry, but this table is booked for another party at 7, so you'll have to order your meals now." My mother and the rest of the table were shocked: firstly, because this is the rudest thing we've ever heard from restaurant staff (who aren't on the other end of a drive-thru speaker), and secondly, because she had never been told any such thing when she booked the table. Had we known we were being timed, we may have selected another venue for this important night.

The manager came over and was unapologetic. He advised that it was Valentine's Day and we had been told when we booked that there was a 2hr limit. My mother argued that this was not true as she had only been told we could have a table at 5 or 9, and no time slot was ever even suggested. The arrogant man said "My partner and I personally booked all reservations for tonight and we told everyone. We've been doing this for a while, we don't make mistakes." My mom said she had spoken to a young woman not a man when she called. The owner responded "you couldn't have." She asked if he was calling her a liar and he shrugged and said (again) "I'm the owner, and my partner and I made sure everyone who booked tonight knew there was a 2 hour time slot. It's Valentines Day and its busy; we need the table." When this cocky thing argued with my mother for about 5 minutes (again, without a hint of apology or without offering the tiniest concession in light of the "customer is always right rule", my mother became quite upset at the fact that we were being told to hurry up, eat and get out. My father then had to leave his guests/party to step in because this man was incredibly rude to my mother and he was ruining the party. When the guy again cited the fact that he was the owner and that again he apparently never made a mistake in his life, he added that he would have the kitchen rush our food now since it was almost 6. (Wow! wrong answer...)

As you can see, customer service is non-existant in the eyes of the owner of the Sicilian Pasta Kitchen. (A foolish mindset for an "owner" of anything service-related to have during a supposed recession -- Guess he does make mistakes afterall.) My parents and I were ready to leave without ordering. Unfortunately, the rest of our party was disheartened by his taunts of "it's Valentines Day and its busy everywhere," and they wanted to stay because they didn't think we could find any place else to eat. (At this point, I would have opted for a pizza pop in the microwave before I put another cent in this loser's pocket). Unfortunately, majority rule says we stayed. I ordered a panini which I would NOT recommend; the caesar salad that came with it was pretty tasty, but the "panini" itself was literally a sub bun with a single sausage link on it...not grilled like panini, no "special" panini bread, no nothing ...I promise you, it would have been cheaper (and heartier) at Subway. Also, my boyfriend's lampchops were raw and had to be sent back: (thanks for "rushing" those for us). 2 people at the table had to ask for the salt shaker as there was little flavor to their pizza and pasta bowl. We declined all dessert, liquors and coffee because of this rush job treatment, and we opted to get a cake at Safeway and continue the party at home. When we left at 7 under the watchful eye of the server and management, the place was maybe half full...

This foolish man was so intent on having more people come in that he did not concern himself with the level of hospitality he was extending to the people he already had in there -- also he was too arrogant to realize the fact that the 9 people at his table, who were worth almost 50 dollars a piece on this occasion, would be worth much more to him in the future when we returned again with other people....Instead, we will each be worth zero dollars to him and his business from now on. (And, had he thought before he spoke, he would have realized we likely wouldn't have been there much past 7:30 anyway.)

I sincerely hope you will heed my message. This was customer service at its worst. He upset my mother and my father on what was a very special occasion for us, and then the food was mediocre at best. As a consumer, please think about this -- if you can't turn to the management/owner for customer satisfaction when you need help, who can you turn to? I recommend reading the other bad reviews about this place and then considering another restaurant. Thank you for your time.

The Sicilian Pasta Kitchen has been one of our old stand bys for years now. It's often the place we decide on when we're downtown and nothing else is catching our attention. It is reliable, dependable and tasty and you can't ask for much more than that.

On my most recent visit (hit the patio if you can) I had the linguine Trapani (veal strips, sun dried tomato and goat cheese in a cream sauce). As with all pastas at the Sicilian Pasta Kitchen it was great. Al dente pasta, nice balance of flavors, generous amount of veal and the goat cheese wasn't overpowering at all. I had a starter Caesar as an appy and this one was more quantity over quality. It came in a huge bowl however for my tastes it was under-dressed and a bit bland, and I generally like my salads with only a moderate amount of dressing.

Other favorites include the bruschetta which is always overflowing with tomato and garlic goodness and the linguine granchio with fried crab, scallops and other underwater delights (my old stand by dish at my old stand by restaurant). If you like seafood the granchio never fails.

Service has always been adequate and I don't remember having any problems. While this restaurant is right on Jasper Ave there is generous parking in the back and if you're not there primetime Saturday night you shouldn't have a problem finding a spot.
