The food was great, but the service and ambiance was far from what I was expecting. The talent defintely lies in the kitchen.

I heard so much hype about the new Restaurant opening in the Edmn Art Gallery, I couldn't wait to try this place out. It was smaller than I expected, and very modern, but cold, with cement floors like you see in Home Depot or Rona.
The food was very good, excellent flavors & combinations, but portions were tiny and fairly pricey for such a casual atmosphere.
Service was b-rate. It is clear this restaurant has no training program. Very casual service. Much slower and more unprofessional than most casual dining chain restaurants...

Our special occasion evening was a gong show at Zinc, where I truly have never had more incompetent service. Our server was not knowledgeable about the dishes, allowed the table to be set with spotty silverware and lipstick on my glass, and called my wife and me "you guys" from start to finish. I must say, Red Lobster at lunchtime proves much superior service!

Our food was good but not outstanding, and certainly not $40-plate worthy. Our coffee came out stone cold and when we asked our server to just take it off the bill, he was snippy and left us waiting nearly 20 more minutes for our bill.

We eat out often and typically tip 20% for dinner, but there was no way we could give more than 10% for this service. A letter to the management reporting on our experience went unanswered. Perhaps the leadership at Zinc thinks no patrons tell others of there experiences? I can see from other review sites and message boards that many of us have had similar experiences . . .

A swanky new addition to the downtown restaurant scene - billing itself as a resto-lounge, it has a great location in the new Art Gallery of Alberta with many tables looking out at the lights of Churchill Square and City Hall. Don't believe the website when it comes to available tables - the claim was that 5.30 was the only available reservation but when we called there was no problem getting a table at the time we wanted. It's a small restaurant with high ceilings and concrete floors - so quite noisy. There's a messy coat rack at the front which detracts from first impressions. Also two staff jockeying for position - no-one seemed to know whose job it was to greet us.

The service was very willing but not classy - more Red Lobster than Hardware Grill. The scallop appetizer ($18) was beautifully presented and the scallops were cooked to perfection but served lukewarm. The main courses came hotter but basically are quite expensive unless you're getting the whole "High-end" experience. Based simply on food and presentation quality you can pay less at other restaurants for the same. What Zinc does have is a fantastic location so I really hope they can attract a more experienced elegant level of service which befits the price point. The chef came to our table after and introduced himself, which was a nice touch.
